The Australian comedian Christina P has come a long way since she started out as a local stand-up in Melbourne in 2010.

In a few short years, the comic has amassed an impressive list of awards, including Best Newcomer and Best Comedian.

Now, with her latest stand-alone Comedy, Christina P looks back at her early years as a stand-in for her now-classic material and shares her experiences with the community.

The comedian says she started her career as a regular at the Melbourne comedy club The Hoot, where she began performing as the hostess.

“It was really fun to be the host, because I was always a little bit nervous about how the crowd would react to me,” Christina P says.

“I didn’t know what the reaction would be to the audience but they always seemed to enjoy me and that was the most fun.”

The comic started performing as a hostess, which made her an instant celebrity and led to the opening of The Hoots Comedy Club in 2011.

She says it was a great opportunity to introduce her stand-ups to a wider audience, and that she found it a great way to connect with the audience.

“The first time I went to The Hooting Comedy Club was in 2011 and I remember sitting on the couch and seeing all these people,” she says.

“I thought ‘I could do this’.”

A few weeks later I went out to dinner and I was just like ‘I’ve got to go home now.’

“She says that at first, she was unsure if the community would embrace her comedy, but the more she performed, the more they liked her and she found her audience grew from there.”

I’ve always wanted to work for a club, but I didn’t realise it was going to be this big thing,” she continues. “

The thing that made me a celebrity was that people had a lot of respect for me and wanted to be around me.”

“I’ve always wanted to work for a club, but I didn’t realise it was going to be this big thing,” she continues.

“Then I went in there and it was so much fun.”

One of the things I really enjoyed doing in that first year, was playing on the stage with the other comedians.

I didn’ think it was that big of a deal but it was.

“The comedian’s stand-out material has included stand-offs with her fellow comedians, like the recent award-winning stand-down with the comedian Robyn McDevitt, and she says she still performs stand-downs and comedy bits with people all over the world.”

We are doing a lot with our friends in the US and in the UK and the Philippines,” she said.”

Our stand-outs are a lot more than just stand-ing, we’re actually doing it as a group.

“She also enjoys doing comedy on stage with other stand-mates, but says it is not necessarily a new experience for her.”

When I was younger, I was a really big stand-off comedian,” she laughs.”

But when I was young, I think I was probably even more into stand-singing and acting.

“Then I found that I was really good at doing stand-play and I’ve been doing standup for about 10 years now.”

But the comedian admits that performing on stage has not been the same since she first started.

“You can do it all,” she reveals.

“There’s so much more fun to do.”
