Panthers trade QB Zach Mettenberger for WR Brandon Tate

Carolina Panthers quarterback Zach Metteberger and receiver Brandon Tate are among several teams trading for tight end Zach Metterberger, the league announced Monday.

Metteber is set to become an unrestricted free agent next week.

The Panthers will also receive a fifth-round pick and a 2018 third-round draft pick in the deal.

The NFL also announced that the Cowboys will receive a 2018 first-round selection in the trade.

The Cowboys also are trading wide receiver Terrance Williams to the Panthers.

He was a third-rounder in the 2018 draft.

The Texans, who drafted Metteberg in the second round in 2018, also are receiving a 2018 second-round and 2018 fourth-round picks.

Texans general manager Rick Smith confirmed the trade on his Twitter account.

The move is subject to approval by the league.

Mettenberg and Tate are the top tight ends in the NFL and both were selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Metterber, the Panthers’ third-year tight end, had 11 catches for 130 yards in 2016.

He caught four passes for 44 yards in a win over the Rams.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Metterberg will likely be the Panthers top target in 2017.
